1. Can I pull a report from your website?

No you cannot. We do have offices located in York, Clover, Rock Hill and Fort Mill for your convenience to pick up a copy of a report.

2. Why hasn’t a warrant been served?

There are a couple of different reasons why a warrant hasn’t been served yet. #1 - We haven’t received the warrant from the court. #2 - If we went out and tried the warrant, the suspect wasn’t home at the time or the suspect may have moved and left no forwarding address.

3. What do I need to do to get a scrap metal permit?

In order to be issued a scrap metal permit, you must come into the York County Sheriff Office District 3 Office located at 515 S. Cherry Rd. Rock Hill, SC. 

Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm. You will need to bring in your valid driver’s license or SC issued identification card.  

The District 3 office is located in the former Army reserve building between York County Natural Gas and the Rock Hill Magistrate's Office at 529 S. Cherry Rd.

 

4. When and where can I get finger printed?

If you are in need of your fingerprints taken for background checks, employment, children’s records, etc., the following times are when the YCSO Duty Officer can administer fingerprints: 

• First & Third Wednesdays of the month between 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only.

The cost is $5 for one card and $8 for two. Please bring the exact or correct amount. 

* We DO NOT fingerprint on Friday. * You must have proper identification before requesting fingerprints. * No ID means no prints *Fingerprints are only taken at the Moss Justice Center. Fingerprints cards cannot be taken at any YCSO district offices.

5. How do I make sure I’m practice shooting safely on my property?

You have to shoot in a safe manner into an approved backstop. Be sure to only practice shoot during daylight hours as not to disturb your neighbors.

6. How can I find out when my court date is?

In order to figure out your court date, you will need to call the court in which you are to report to. If it is a general session’s case, you may contact York County Clerk of Court office at (803) 628-3036.

7. How do I find out if my license is suspended?

For driver’s license information, you will need to contact South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. (803) 896-5000

8. Where do I go to get a marriage license?

Marriage license are issued by York County Probate Court. They are located at 2 S. Congress Street in York SC.

9. Where do I get a copy of an accident report?

Accident reports are handled by The South Carolina Highway Patrol. They have an office located at 454 S. Anderson Rd, Suite 400, Rock Hill SC.

1. Who is the York County Sheriff's Public Information Officer?

Deputy Trent Faris is the Public Information Officer for the York County Sheriff's Office. 

In Deputy Faris' absence, Community Relations Liaison Cpl. Johnathan Gilbert is the Assistant PIO.

2. How do I find a report?

Official incident reports can be obtained at the Moss Justice Center located at 1675 York Hwy., York, SC 29745.

Additionally journalists can email a report request to the YCSO Public Information Officer, Deputy Trent Faris.

4. If I cannot get in touch with the PIO what should I do?

1. DO NOT call Public Safety Communications, aka. Dispatch seeking information pertaining to law enforcement matters. You are tying up a phone line for someone calling in with a legitimate emergency. 

2. The PIO is available via phone, text or email. Please be patient when seeking information from the PIO.

5. How do I get an arrest warrant?

After the arrest warrant has been served to the suspect, the arrest warrant is made available. Simply contact the PIO and they will attempt to get a copy of the arrest warrant from the Detective or Deputy over the case. Additionally if an arrest warrant has been served copies can be obtained at the York County Clerk of Court Office at the Moss Justice Center. 

6. How do I find out which agency arrested someone?

We have a new feature on the sheriff's office website under inmate search. In the far right column next to the charge description will have the arresting agency's name.

7. How do I submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request?

The Sheriff's Office Staff Attorney, Heather Mouzon, accepts FOIA requests.

In accordance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), S.C. Code Ann. §§ 30-4-10 to 30-4-165, any person has the right to inspect and copy public records.  Requests for public records made pursuant to the FOIA should be directed to:

In order to offset the costs incurred by the York County Sheriff’s Office for searching, retrieving, and redacting public records, the following fee schedule applies:

• 14-day reports furnished  $1.00 for first copy, $.25 for each additional copy under § 30-4-30(D)(2)   (in-person requests only)
• Copies                                                 $.25 per copy
• Data Discs                                           $10.00 per disc
• Search/Redaction Time                       minimum of $14.70 per hour (you will be charged for the hourly rate of the lowest paid employee who has the skill and training necessary to respond to the request)

A deposit of 25% of the estimated costs for searching, retrieving, redacting and reproducing records may be required prior to the York County Sheriff’s Office undertaking the search.  The full balance must be paid at the time of production of the records.

Inspecting, copying, and production of public records are subject to all applicable exemptions and exclusions provided by the FOIA or other state and federal laws.  If public records are available for electronic transmission by the York County Sheriff’s Office, per page copying charges do not apply; however, you will still be charged for staff time spent searching for, retrieving, and redacting the records.  The York County Sheriff’s Office is not required to create an electronic version of a public record where one does not exist.

Pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. § 30-2-50, obtaining or using public records for commercial solicitation directed to any person in the State of South Carolina is prohibited and is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and imprisonment up to one year, or both.
