YORK COUNTY, SC – On November 5, 2018 at approximately 12:30 PM a bed bug was located in the lobby of the Detention Center at the Moss Justice Center in York, SC. It is believed a visitor to the Detention facility brought the bed bug in from outside the facility.
Exterminators were immediately called to inspect the Moss Justice Center public entrance, detention center lobby, detention visitation area, detention administration, the Sheriff’s main lobby reception area and hallways. A specialized K-9 dog trained to specifically detect bed bugs located only one chair in the detention center lobby to have bed bugs.
As a precaution the two full sections of lobby chairs were removed from the building and will be treated. The entire lobby of the detention center will also be treated for bed bugs.
The exterminators believe just one visitor to the detention center brought in the bed bugs and only infected the one chair.
This incident of bed bugs in detention center is believed to not be related to recent incidents of bed bugs located in the court building side of the Moss Justice Center on November 1st or October 16th.
