[ARCHIVED] Long Serving Sheriff’s Office Captain to Retire

Stanley Wells

YORK COUNTY, SC – After a career in law enforcement that spans nearly five decades, Captain Stanley Wells will retire at the end of August.  Captain Wells began his career in Law Enforcement in 1971 as a Community Service Officer with the City of Rock Hill Police Department. In November of 1973 Wells was hired as a Deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Most recently serving as Captain of Administration, in his 44 years and 9 months career, Wells served in many roles at the York County Sheriff’s Office beginning as a Patrol Deputy, Detective, Narcotics Investigator, Lieutenant and Captain over Investigations. Captain Wells also served on the Sheriff’s Foundation of York County, Inc. board.

 “Very few people dedicate such a long portion of their lives to community service and I am very thankful for the many years of service Captain Wells has dedicated to the Sheriff’s Office and citizens of York County,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson.

Captain Wells served with six Sheriffs of York County.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to know that I was a member of one of the most professional law enforcement agencies in the state of South Carolina and the surrounding regions,” said Captain Wells. “I want to take this opportunity to thank Sheriff Kevin Tolson and the previous Sheriffs for entrusting me to serve and protect the citizens of York County during my tenure. Also, I want to commend all the men and women for their support and dedication to the overall mission of the York County Sheriff’s Office."

In his retirement, Captain Wells plans to spend time with his family, to be more involved with his church activities and do some traveling. Captain Wells' will last day at the York County Sheriff's Office is August 31, 2018.
