[ARCHIVED] YCSO July Awards & Commendations

Sheriff Badge

YORK COUNTY, SC - Sheriff Kevin Tolson would like to congratulate the following members of the York County Sheriff's Office who received Awards and Commendations for the month of July.

July Employees of the Month – Sergeant Lanelle Day and Sergeant Mark Gibby

Sergeants Day and Gibby were selected as the Employees of the Month for July based upon their hard work that led to the apprehension of individuals responsible for a series of armed robberies in Rock Hill and Lake Wylie.  According to Lieutenant Wallace, “Many officers helped with the investigation, but if it were not for Sgt. Day and Sgt. Gibby being keenly aware that they may have come in contact with the suspects and suspect vehicle on a simple assist motorist call, then we would quite possibly still be looking for the suspects.”

Life-Saving Medal – Deputy Michael Buie, Deputy Blake Haynes, and Deputy Andrew Gallant

Deputy Michael Buie responded to a call for service in reference to an overdose.  Deputy Buie arrived prior to EMS and found the patient unresponsive and not breathing.  Deputy Buie administered CPR until he was able to detect a heartbeat.  EMS arrived and was able to administer Narcan.  Deputy Buie kept the patient alive until further medical treatment could be administered.

Deputies Blake Haynes and Andrew Gallant responded to a call for assistance from EMS regarding an individual slumped over in a car.  Deputies Haynes and Gallant arrived on scene prior to EMS and found the unresponsive subject in a locked vehicle.  They broke a window to gain access to the subject and discovered that he was not breathing.  The two deputies performed CPR on the subject in an effort to start his breathing.  Deputies Haynes and Gallant had to perform CPR on the subject several times before EMS arrived because the subject stopped breathing repeatedly.

Commendations – Sergeant Lee Stoneburner and Deputy Cole Greene

Sergeant Stoneburner is to be commended for his response to a motor vehicle collision that he encountered on his way to work.  When he arrived on the scene, Sergeant Stoneburner found a female patient who was trapped in her vehicle.  He forced his way into the vehicle and began to try and render medical care while calming the victim.  Sergeant Stoneburner stayed inside the vehicle with the victim, maintaining C-Spine protocol and providing reassurance to the victim, while the Fire Department and EMS used the “jaws of life” to free her from her vehicle.

Deputy Greene is to be commended for his tact in informing an individual of the passing of the individual’s girlfriend.  The Cherokee County Corner asked Deputy Greene to inform an individual that his girlfriend has passed away the night before in Cherokee County.  Deputy Greene was also informed that this individual had an active arrest warrant.  Deputy Greene had the difficult task of informing the individual of the passing of his girlfriend and arresting him on an active warrant.  Deputy Greene received a letter a few weeks after the arrest from the individual thanking him for his tact and kindness during that difficult time.
