[ARCHIVED] YCSO Explorer Post Cadet Graduates from NCALEEA, Award Given in Honor of Det. Mike Doty

YORK COUNTY, SC/SALEMBURG, NC - Congratulations to York County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 1786 Cadet James T. Sibley for graduating the 41st North Carolina Academy of Law Enforcement Explorers Association.  The week long academy was held at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC.

This year a new award was given in honor of Det. Mike Doty.  Doty was an YCSO Explorer advisor and an advisor at the Explorer Academy for many years.  The 'Detective Micheal R. Doty Advisers Memorial Award' is given to the Cadet  that 'never gives up, despite any obstacles in their way, and is always uplifting to others'. The award requirements were mirrored after Det. Doty’s attributes.    This award will be given every year in Mike Doty’s name.

The first award recipient is Adam Knight from the Gastonia, NC Police Explorer Post 515. His adviser stated Knight was given the award for, “Perseverance through both the basic and advanced academy.  He (Knight) is not a quitter. He Sets his mind to achieve and does. After the basic academy he came home joined a gym and is working hard on losing weight.  He has lost 50-70 lbs. already and is continuing his journey. He is dedicated to the Gastonia Police Explorer program and has many volunteer hours. He is a friend to all in the program.”

Sgt. Lee Stoneburner, the Explorer Post 1786 adviser was a cadet adviser at the academy again this year. The YCSO Explorer post was the only post form South Carolina represented at this academy this year.
