York County Detectives make arrest in Old Friendship Road Homicide Investigation

YORK COUNTY, SC – On June 8, 2018, York County Detectives, along with assistance from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Street Crimes Unit, located Charles Thomas Ridings, 22, of Denton, North Carolina. Ridings faces charges of Armed Robbery, Grand Larceny, and the Murder of Scottie Starnes which occurred on June 2,  2018, in York County.

Through police investigation and interviews it was discovered Ridings stole Starnes’ vehicle. That vehicle was located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Later, CMPD officers and YCSO Detectives were able to locate and arrest Ridings who subsequently confessed to the murder.

“Our Detectives and Criminal Intelligence Unit hard worked many long hours with relentless pursuit, to capture Ridings,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, for without their cooperation and assistance this case may not have been solved as quickly.”

Ridings is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail until an extradition hearing can take place.
