July & August 2023 Awards, Commendations and Anniversaries
Commendation - Sergeant Christopher Doty
Between a span of three days in late June of 2023, Sergeant Doty dealt with a fraud situation where the damage done to the victim was extensive. Out of compassion for the victim who was overwhelmed, Sergeant Doty spent a lot of time on and off duty, helping the victim start from the beginning and get all personal, financial and media accounts shut down or reset. Eventually he was able to completely disconnect and delete any traces of the scammer from her devices using his own personal computer equipment. Taking his own time and resources to go above and beyond to help a fellow York County resident is what makes us all proud to be a part of this Sheriff’s Office.
July Detention Employee of the Month – Detention Officer Jason Cox
Officer Cox has been with the York County Detention Center since December 2022. Officer Cox is always at work, and even works while not feeling the greatest. The shift has been short staffed, and he continues to be of tremendous help all while keeping a good attitude with inmates and coworkers. Officer Cox is an asset to D-team. He steps in to help out where needed and is reliable. Officer Cox always shows up to work, and often volunteers to help on his days off. Major high five to Officer Cox for coming in while not 100% due to the shift being short. He is definitely a team player! He always strives to do as much as he can, even while balancing serving the country in the National Guard. Officer Cox comes in when needed even without much notice. Thank you, Officer Cox, for your hard work and dedication to the facility.
Life Saving Medal – Sergeant Cassandra Caldwell, Sergeant Niesha Foote, Corporal Katherine Sobon, Nurse Leigh Bell
On July 20, 2023 Corporal Sobon, called for medical assistance after finding an inmate unresponsive in booking. The inmate was behind the partition wall and appeared to not be breathing. Sergeant Foote and Corporal Sobon moved him from beside the toilet area and moments later Sergeant Foote and Sergeant Caldwell moved him to the open area in the cell once all inmates were removed. Sergeant Caldwell applied a sternum rub to the inmate’s chest in the which he responded then became unresponsive again. Sergeant Foote then administered Narcan. A few minutes later Nurse Bell administered another dose of Narcan as she was unable to get vitals on the inmate and he had agonal breathing. The inmate was alert and transported to PMC for further evaluation. Due to everyone’s quick actions, the inmate was able to return to the facility without major medical concerns.
