YORK COUNTY, SC – Each year local Optimist Clubs in York County recognize law enforcement officers during the Rock Hill Optimist Club Respect for Law program. On May 31, 2023, Sheriff Kevin Tolson and David Angel with the Rock Hill Optimist Club, presented Detective Sgt. Josh Yates with the 2023 award.

The nomination of the award reads, “This nomination is for Detective Sergeant Josh Yates due to his hard work and dedication to the Criminal Investigations Division and the Violent Crimes Unit. Josh was promoted to a leadership role within the unit and has excelled in that position. Sgt Yates is a team player and is a great leader. Sgt Yates also organized the annual “Brothers in Blue Fundraiser” sporting clay shoot for the York County Sheriff’s Office Foundation. All proceeds went to the Mike Doty Law Enforcement Assistance Fund which will benefit many officers who may be in need. Sgt Yates spent a lot of his personal time organizing the event by gathering prizes, coordinating with key personnel, sponsors, and many other duties that made this year the most successful year ever. The fundraiser raised nearly $35,000.

Sgt. Yates has served the York County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years.
