York County Sheriff Releases name of Deputy involved in shooting

YORK COUNTY, SC – As the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) continues the investigation of the officer involved shooting from December 1, 2017; Sheriff Kevin Tolson is releasing the name of the Deputy.

Deputy Gary Pence was the officer involved and has been employed with the York County Sheriff’s Office since October 2016.  Deputy Pence is currently on administrative leave.

The incident took place shortly after 4:00 AM December 1, 2017, near the 700 block of East Old Limestone Road, York, South Carolina.

As in any officer involved shooting, SLED is investigating. At the conclusion of the SLED investigation, information will be summarized in a case file report from the incident and will be submitted to the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office for review.
