COLUMBIA, SC – Two York County Sheriff's Deputies were honored with the Medal of Valor from the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association. Deputies Lucas Frame and Korey Wedow were given this distinct honor January 25, 2023, at the South Carolina Sheriff's Association Awards Celebration in Columbia.
Deputies Frame and Wedow were awarded with the Medal of Valor for their actions September 13, 2022, when both were involved in an officer involved shooting. After a more than 30 minutes vehicle chase from Fort Mill to Rock Hill the suspect attempted to run the Deputies over with the car he was driving. A deputy was forced to shoot the subject to protect their lives and the lives of the citizens in the area.
“These officers literally stared death in the face while being attacked with a 35 hundred pound weapon car," said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. "While we are always saddened for the loss of life our officers went home safe that night. Their actions are worthy of our utmost respect and admiration.”
The South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Medal of Valor Award is presented to law enforcement officers who perform actions above and beyond the call of duty; exhibit exceptional courage, extraordinary decisiveness, and presence of mind; or act with unusual swiftness, regardless of their personal safety, in an attempt to save or protect human life.
