YORK COUNTY, SC – York county sheriff’s office violent crime detectives have made an arrest in a double homicide investigation. Paul Eugene Bumgardner, 45, of Gastonia, NC was arrested at a home in Gastonia just before 8:00 p.m. on October 6 without incident. Bumgarner is charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and burglary first degree.
Bumgardner is suspected of killing two people at a home on Saddle Ridge Road in Fort Mill, SC on September 27. A 71-year-old female and a 40-year-old male were found deceased in the home from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The woman and man were related to each other.
“The outstanding and diligent work by our team to develop this person as a suspect and get him into custody in nine days is admirable,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson.
Bumgardner is being held at the Gastonia Police Department until the extradition process back to York County. Gaston County Police, Gastonia Police assisted in the arrest. This case remains under investigation.
