[ARCHIVED] SLED investigating inmate death while in York County Detention Center

YORK COUNTY, SC – The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting a death investigation of an inmate at the York County Detention Center. On November 28, 2017, at approximately 1:00 AM a detention officer making normal rounds was notified by another inmate that the inmate was reportedly breathing abnormally. Immediately, detention staff called a medical emergency, rendered CPR/first aid and notified Piedmont EMS.

The deceased inmate, Jonathan Paul Morgan, 28, of Rock Hill was brought to the York County Detention Center by Rock Hill Police November 27th at approximately 11:10 PM. Morgan, originally arrested in September, was being held on charges of Pettit Larceny, Resisting Police and Furnishing Contraband in a Prison.

The York County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy. No foul play is suspected and SLED was requested by the YCSO to conduct an investigation into the incident as is standard procedure for any in-custody death.
