YORK COUNTY, SC – The York County Sheriff’s Office is searching for new qualified citizens to serve as Detention Officers. On June 15, 2022, Sheriff Kevin Tolson and Detention Center recruiters are holding a one of a kind hiring event. From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, those interested in learning more about careers at the York County Detention Center can bypass the online application process and get a face-to-face interview on the spot.

The YCDC has immediate openings for the positions of Detention Officers, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses. All positions have room for advancement to include Assigned Booking Officer, Transport Officer, Master Control Specialist, and Shift Supervisor. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office offers opportunities for advanced training in management, instruction, and certifications through the American Jail Association.

After six-months to a year on the job, officers can join specialized units, such as the Emergency Response Team, YCSO Dive Team, Mounted Search and Rescue Team, and Aviation Response (Drone) Team.

The starting pay for a detention officer is $40,000 per year, but the amount of pay can increase based on education and experience. Detention officers receive South Carolina police retirement, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits.
