YORK COUNTY, SC – There is a new second in command at the York County Sheriff’s Office. Due to the retirement of Major Robbie Hudgins in December, Sheriff Kevin Tolson appointed Fred Moore as the new Undersheriff with the rank of Major.
Major Moore previously held the position of Administrative Captain. Moore has a total of 27-years of law enforcement experience and has served the York County Sheriff’s Office for 18-years. In his time at the YCSO Moore has held positions as Lieutenant over juvenile and sex crimes, violent crimes Detective, as well as a patrol deputy. Moore is currently the Commander of the Crisis Negotiators Team. In other specialized units, he was a member of the dive team.
“I am honored and humbled to serve the citizens of York County by successfully accomplishing my duties as undersheriff,” said Major Moore. “I am also proud to serve with Sheriff Kevin Tolson and the dedicated men and women of the York County Sheriff’s Office.”
In his new role, Moore will report directly to Sheriff Kevin Tolson and assist the Sheriff with the day-to-day operations of the enforcement and detention divisions.
“Fred’s vast experience and knowledge of this agency's operations and York county, overall makes him a great fit for this important position,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “I am looking forward to his service and leadership.”
Major Moore is a 1989 graduate of Fort Mill High School, and a 1993 graduate of Winthrop University, with a degree in Political Science and History. In 2000 Major Moore received a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina.
Major Moore has completed a variety of specialized and advanced law enforcement training. Most recently in 2021, he completed the FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Trilogy Program through the supervisor, command, and executive leadership institute.
Major Moore is a 2010 graduate of Leadership York County and currently serves on the LYCO planning council. Additionally, he served as the 2012 chairman of the YouLead Youth Leadership Program. Moore is married with two children and is a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Fort Mill, SC.
