[ARCHIVED] York County citizens are invited to Sheriff’s Office accreditation public information forum

YORK COUNTY, SC - In 2008, the York County Sheriff’s Office earned Law Enforcement Accreditation as administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Accreditation status is subject to review during a four-year accreditation award cycle and the York County Sheriff’s Office is approaching its fourth review. During the review, CALEA will conduct an on-site assessment of the York County Sheriff’s Office; this on-site assessment will take place December 13-15, 2021.

During the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, December 13th; the public information session begins at 5:00 P.M. The session will be conducted in the Jury Selection Room at the Moss Justice Center, 1675-2A York Hwy, York, SC.

Individuals who cannot speak at the public information session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, may do so by calling (803) 628-5998 on Monday, December 13, 2021, between 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. Comments during the public information session and telephone session are limited to 10 minutes and comments must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

Persons wishing to submit written comments about the York County Sheriff’s Office ability to comply with the standards for accreditation are requested to write: CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainesville, Virginia 20155.                                                        

CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement's major executive associations in an effort to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by: maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioner.
