In person inmate visitation to resume November 15

Detention Center Visitation Hours Graphic Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

YORK COUNTY, SC - After a three months suspension Sheriff Kevin Tolson is reopening in-person inmate visitation at the York County Detention Center beginning Monday, November 15, 2021. Inmates in the York County Detention Center will be allowed a one 30-mimute visit per week. The limit is one visitor per visit and that visitor must be 18-years-old or older. This is to insure social distancing guidelines are maintained while also providing staff the ability to clean the visitation area several times throughout the day.

In August of this year, Jail administrators recommended suspending visitation due to the sharp increase of COVID-19 cases throughout South Carolina. The suspension was to protect the inmates and staff of the Detention Center from contracting the COVID-19 and spreading the virus to the inmate population.

Inmate video visitation and phone calls were still an option for families to communicate with their loved ones during the suspension.

To visit an inmate, all inmates will need to submit an Inmate Visitation Request Form to get visitors approved. Visitation requests must be initiated by the inmate. An inmate may have up to six people approved for visitation. If visitors were approved prior to the suspension, the inmate may need to reach out to the visitation staff through the inmate kiosk system with the request form type, “Regular Visitation” to confirm their previous visitation day and time. Once the form is approved, the inmate is assigned a day and time of the week.
