YORK COUNTY, SC – Crime Stoppers of York County names two York County Sheriff’s Deputies as 2020 investigators of the year. On March 19, 2021, at a ceremony at the YCSO, the Crime Stoppers board of directors presented Criminal Investigator of the Year to Detective Jhonnatan Ramirez. In addition, Christopher Laurencio was honored as Narcotics Investigator of the Year.
Assigned to the property crimes section, Detective Ramirez began posting pictures on a wall for patrol deputies of individuals he had arrest warrants for, as well as people he suspected of committing crimes so patrol could put a face with a name. In doing this Ramirez was able to solve several cases of high importance. Detective Ramirez effectively uses all available resources including Crime Stoppers to get information out and to identify potential suspects.
Investigator Laurencio has developed a reputation as a self-motivated leader on the Drug Enforcement Unit. Investigator Laurencio has led several investigations which resulted in the successful prosecution of fentanyl and opioid traffickers. These drugs are a leading cause of overdose deaths in York County.
“Thank you to the Crime Stoppers board for recognizing these officers,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “Ramirez and Laurencio work very hard and are relentless when it comes to solving crime. I as well as the community should be thankful to have them.”
In addition, Bob Pierce was given special recognition for serving on the board of directors for 21-years. Pierce was a founding member of Crime Stoppers of York County.
