YORK COUNTY, SC – After a four and a half hour standoff, York County Detectives are now investigating a death possibly associated with the incident.

At 8:02 A.M. on November 7, 2020, York County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about a person trespassing at a house on Tom Barber Road. The person later identified as Prince Demario Barber, returned to his home at 3777 Marshal Road. When Deputies arrived at the home on Marshal Rd. Barber fired shots at deputies. One deputy returned fire. No civilians, deputies or Barber were shot in the exchange of gun fire. One deputy was injured, not seriously and was able to continue his duties until relieved. He is recovering at this time. Then the four and a half hour standoff began.

At 12:37 P.M. YCSO negotiators were able to convince Barber to surrender. When deputies secured the house Barber was held up in, a body of an unidentified deceased person was found in the backyard. The death investigation will be conducted by York County Sheriff’s Detectives. The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the shooting.

"We are thankful that this incident was resolved peacefully and without great harm to our officers or the suspect," said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and our officers."

More information will be released when it comes available.
