[ARCHIVED] Officer involved shooting off Lloyd White Road in Clover

YORK COUNTY, SC – On October 19, 2017, at approximately 8:12 AM the York County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle pursuit by North Carolina Highway Patrol into South Carolina.

Deputies came in contact with the vehicle and attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop due to information received the vehicle was reported stolen and had been involved in an hit and run incident in North Carolina.

During the traffic stop, the suspect in the car fired gunshots and a deputy returned fire. In the process of fleeing in reverse, the suspect rammed the vehicle into a Sheriff’s Office patrol car. The suspect then encountered Clover Police Department officers where the suspect struck a Clover Police vehicle. 

The suspect exchanged gunshots again with Clover Police and a York County deputy.  The suspect then fled the area toward North Carolina state line where officers from North Carolina took over the pursuit.

The pursuit ended in Kings Mountain, North Carolina where the suspect was later shot and killed by North Carolina officers.

One Clover Police Officer was received injuries to his arm during the encounter, but not struck by gunfire. No Sheriff’s Office deputies were injured.

Per policy for any Officer Involved Shooting, Master Deputy II Wayne Richardson and Deputy Blaine Addis have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Per Clover Police Chief Randy Grice, Clover Lieutenants Frankie Sadler and Logan McGarity have been placed on administrative leave.

In every case involving an officer-involved shooting, the State Law Enforcement Division has been called in to investigate.
