YORK COUNTY, SC (YCSO NEWS) – On March 27, 2020 at approximately 1:15 PM York County Detention Officers discovered an inmate in his cell unresponsive. Immediately, Emergency Medical Services were called to the Detention Center and Detention Officers performed CPR and first aid; however, the inmate was not able to be resuscitated.
There is no sign of foul play. This death is also not COVID-19 virus related.
The inmate’s name is not being released until next of kin is notified by the York County Coroner’s Office.
The inmate was originally charged by the York County Sheriff’s Office in March of 2020.
It is normal procedure when there is an in-house inmate death for the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to be called in to investigate.
