Enforcement August Employee of the Month: Deputy Caleb Bucy
Deputy Bucy has been selected as the Employee of the Month for August because of his targeted enforcement action that has resulted in several shoplifting arrests in the Fort Mill area. This area has long been a hotbed of shoplifting beer from convenience stores. Recognizing this problem, Deputy Bucy engaged in targeted enforcement action in hopes to stop some of this criminal activity.
Deputy Bucy’s efforts definitely paid off. Over the summer, Deputy Bucy stopped 6 shoplifters who were attempting to steal beer. One of these shoplifters had an active warrant for felony larceny out of Georgia with nation-wide extradition. In another of these arrests, Deputy Bucy stopped several juveniles from stealing beer. During this encounter, he took extra time to talk with the juveniles about the consequences of this type of behavior, which hopefully helped them to take another path in life.
Deputy Bucy’s is to be commended for recognizing a problem and tailoring his enforcement activity to address that problem. This is a great example of the impact of proactive policing.
Enforcement September Employee of the Month: Deputy Troy Bertholf
Deputy Bertholf has been selected as the Employee of the Month for September because of his response to a complaint of criminal sexual conduct that involved a minor victim. While speaking with Detective Smith about this matter, the victim’s family expressed how impressed they were with Deputy Bertholf when filing the initial report. Deputy Bertholf’s compassion when speaking with the victim helped to make a traumatic event more bearable.
While speaking with the victim, Deputy Bertholf became aware that the suspect had likely assaulted another victim and this second victim actually lived with the suspect. Rather than wait for Detective Smith to follow up on this information, Deputy Bertholf contacted DSS so that they could immediately begin investigating the matter.
Deputy Bertholf is to be commended for the compassion he showed while interviewing this victim and for following up on information that he learned while taking the initial report.
Detention Employee of the Month – Lead Booking Officer/ICE 287(g) Officer Anamaria Caveny
Corporal Caveny was nominated for this award by a coworker.
Corporal Caveny is an outstanding professional who is always willing to go above and beyond to assist the shifts as needed and any other area of the facility. In addition to her ICE 287(g) duties, she is often asked to assist in the booking area and classification area, and does so without hesitation.
Corporal Caveny consistently displays patience and professionalism with difficult or complicated inmates. Corporal Caveny recently de-escalated a situation by showing compassion for an inmate with mental disabilities who was placed on suicide watch and became belligerent. In addition, Corporal Caveny also recently stayed late into the night shift when she noticed that they needed assistance in the booking area due to the number of inmates needing to be booked in. Her hard work ethic and extensive knowledge of the facilities policies and procedures are displayed on a daily basis, which makes her a great asset to the facility.
Supervisor of the Quarter (3rd Quarter) – Sergeant Cristos Kakouras
Sergeant Kakouras was nominated for this award by one of his subordinates.
Sergeant Kakouras is a leading example for all staff on A-Team. He continuously works hard on a daily basis, and is always available to help any officer in need while maintaining a positive attitude. He is a tremendous help in the booking area, and always helps without being asked for assistance. Sergeant Kakouras goes above and beyond to make sure all of his duties are completed daily. He also inspires others on A-Team to work hard and improve themselves. He consistently shows that he wants to provide his officers the training and development to reach their goals.

Lead Booking Officer / ICE 287(g) Officer David Gunn
On September 27, 2019, while at Piedmont Medical Center, Corporal Gunn was escorting an inmate from inside the hospital to the transport vehicle to be returned to the York County Detention Center. Corporal Gunn then noticed Deputy R. Quinn attempting to place a female individual in the back of his patrol vehicle. The individual attempted to exit the vehicle, and Corporal Gunn immediately went to the assistance of Deputy Quinn. Corporal Gunn assisted Deputy Quinn in placing the female back into the patrol vehicle and controlling the situation. During the incident, Corporal Gunn was also bit by the female individual. Corporal Gunn should be commended for his quick actions to assist Deputy Quinn in securing the female individual into the vehicle.
Detention Officer I Robert Wallace
On September 22, 2019 at approximately 0400, Officer Wallace was conducting pat searches on the York County Prison Camp inmate workers reporting for duty in the kitchen/laundry. Officer Wallace completed all of the pat searches thoroughly and professionally. During the search of one inmate, Officer Wallace discovered a bag of tobacco tucked into the pants leg of one of the inmates. Officer Wallace maintained control of the area and the situation while notifying his onduty supervisors and awaiting their arrival.
Officer Wallace consistently displays professionalism, positive attitude, and diligence while performing his duties. He should be commended for his actions on this date.

Transport Officer Jeffrey Wills
Officer Wills was nominated for a letter of appreciation from Sergeant T. Anderson
Officer Wills has been a valuable asset to the Transportation Team. He has been known to complete multiple inmate transports in a single day. Some of these transports result in him working unscheduled overtime, and he completes these tasks without complaint.
Officer Wills is a team player, and is always available to assist his co-workers, as well as assisting the medical unit and booking areas.
