[ARCHIVED] York County Sheriff’s Detective Awarded as Top Digital Investigator

YORK COUNTY, SC (YCSO NEWS) When it comes to cyber crime, a York County Sheriff’s Detective is one of the best according to the United States Secret Service. On October 17, 2019, Secret Service Special Agent Frank Kelley, recognized Detective Alex Clark as being in the top 50 in the nation for forensic analysis of electronic devices.

There are more than 1,250 certified Digital Forensic Investigators in the country. Three South Carolina Electronic Crimes Task Force members ranked in the Top 50 of investigators. Detective Clark is one of those three recognized.

Digital Forensic Investigators recover digital evidence from any electronic device taken into evidence as part of a crime. Those devices include cell phones, computers, software, or even cloud storage devices.

Detective Clark was given a silver plate inscribed with the USA Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security logo and engraved as a top computer forensic examiner with the National Computer Forensics Institute.

The National Computer Forensic Institute (NCFI) is a federally funded training center dedicated to instructing state and local officials in digital evidence and cyber crime investigations. The NCFI was opened in 2008 with a mandate to provide state and local law enforcement, legal and judicial professionals a free, comprehensive education on current cyber crime trends, investigative methods, and prosecutorial and judicial challenges.
