[ARCHIVED] Suspect in pepper spray robberies identified & arrested

YORK COUNTY, SC (YCSO NEWS) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, in cooperation with the York County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Vladimir Augustus Lynch, 42, in reference to two strong armed robberies using pepper spray in Lake Wylie/Clover area of York County.  The York County Sheriff Office investigation identified Lynch as the suspect of two separate strong armed robberies in the Lake Wylie area in which pepper spray was used as a weapon to assault victims and then rob the businesses.

Lynch was taken into custody by the CMPD Targeted Response and Apprehension Unit (T.R.A.P) at approximately 12:00 PM on August 15, 2019.

On Friday, August 2, 2019, at 8:30 PM, it is believed, Lynch walked into the Pet Sense store, located at 221 Latitude Ln, Lake Wylie, SC and went to the register to make a purchase. He handed the employee a $5 bill. As the female employee opened the register drawer, he pepper sprayed her and grabbed money from the from the register drawer.

Then on Tuesday, August 6, at approximately 4:15 AM, it is believed, Lynch walked into the Waffle House, located at 5013 Charlotte Hwy.  He orders a beverage, and the female employee gives it to him without cost. He exits the establishment momentarily, re-enters and orders a hamburger. Lynch gave the employee a $5 bill and when she opened the register, he pepper sprayed her, and grabbed the money from the register. He then pepper sprayed the cook.

Lynch was booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. The York County Sheriff’s Office currently has two warrants for Strong Armed Robbery on Lynch. More charges may be pending. This case is still under investigation.
