YORK COUNTY, SC (YCSO) - On April 23, 2019 the York County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit was given the Special Recognition Award for the First Quarter by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism, dedication and willingness to assist the agency in returning a child to his mother.
On January 7, 2019 the Charleston County Family Court issued an order to remove a child from his mother’s custody and transfer the child to his father. The mother had previously fled from Texas to Charleston, then to Fort Mill, SC. The CCSO contacted the York County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit for assistance and Deputies Lieutenant Bert Lilly, Sergeant John Stagner, Warrants Clerk Audrey Blanks, Deputy Lydia Dodson, Deputy Caleb Bucy and Deputy Justin Baxley quickly coordinated and effort to locate the mother and the child. Both mother and child were found at a campground in Fort Mill. The child was returned to his father after several months of searching.
“We are thankful for all of our partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the state, and for Charleston County to recognize our warrant unit’s hard work in this case,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson.
Deputy Bucy attended the awards program in Charleston to accept the award on the Warrant Unit’s behalf.
