CALEA Accreditation

The York County Sheriff's Office has been accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement  (CALEA) since 2008.

In 2014, the York County Sheriff's Office was awarded "Accreditation with Excellence" from CALEA. Commissioners noted in their final report about the YCSO, "the agency had every file for inspection in order, which means zero non-compliance, which is almost unheard of in the inspection process."

In 2022, after a rigorous assessment of agency policy and procedures, Sheriff Kevin Tolson is proud to announce the York County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc., (CALEA). for the fifth time.

ASSESMENT PROGRAM

The York County Sheriff's Office is periodically scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of the program to achieve accreditation by verifying the agency meets nationally accepted professional standards. This assessment is administered by CALEA. The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state of the art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

York County Sheriff’s Office Accreditation Manger, Lieutenant Kim Morehouse, can be reached at 803-818-6849 for additional information regarding CALEA and the accreditation process.

CALEA Public Comment Portal

As part of our on-going CALEA Accreditation process, CALEA has created a public comment portal for each of their accredited agencies.  The purpose of this portal is to receive public comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence and this new approach works to further that objective.

IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
