Patrol Unit
The Patrol Unit is a part of the Uniform and Field Services Division. One of the main objectives of the Patrol Unit is the prevention of crime through preventive enforcement. Preventive enforcement involves the prevention of crimes through a noticeable presence of Sheriff's vehicles and personnel.

Criminal Investigation Units
The York County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is divided into specialized units.

K-9 Unit
The Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit is responsible for tracking fleeing suspects, searching for missing persons, conducting drug searches in area schools, and training all canines used by the YCSO.

Office of Professional Standards
The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) Unit is responsible for maintaining professional standards within the Sheriff's Office. This is achieved through the unit actively: Assisting with policy and procedure development, Completing in depth background investigations, Conducting internal affairs investigations, Conducting pre-employment testing, Conducting staff inspections, Recruiting quality candidates for employment

SWAT Team
SWAT is comprised of officers with varying duties and responsibilities within the agency who, in addition to their regular duties, are selected to train in specialized tactics and who respond as needed to critical incidents such as barricaded suspects, hostage situations, or high-risk warrant service.

Drug Enforcement Unit
This unit consists of officers from 7 different agencies who investigate all drug offenses within York County.

Forensic Services Unit
The York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has teamed up with the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the Clover Police Department, The York Police Department, the Fort Mill Police Department, and the Tega Cay Police Department to operate the York County Multijurisdictional Forensic Services Unit.

Code Enforcement Unit
Code Enforcement Officers investigate and enforce York County Codes and Ordinance violations in conjunction with various York County officials.

School Resource Officer Unit
A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a full time law enforcement officer who works in a school to reduce crime, educate students and staff on law enforcement issues, investigate crimes that occur on campus and counsel students and/or parents in law enforcement matters. SROs are to be good role models for the students.

Civil Process Unit
The Civil Process and Warrants Unit is a Part of the Uniform and Field Services Division. The Civil Process and Warrants Unit is charged with the statutory responsibility of serving and returning judicial process. This unit serves criminal warrants from any Court having jurisdiction and obtaining fugitive warrants for those jurisdictions outside of South Carolina.

Lake Enforcement Unit
The York County Sheriff's Office Lake Enforcement Unit is equipped with a 25-foot Boston Whaler and a 21-foot Triumph to enforce the boating laws and to respond to lakefront crimes and other water-related emergencies.

Dive Team
The York County Sheriff's Office Dive Team is comprised of officers with varying duties and responsibilities within the agency who, in addition to their regular duties, are selected to train in dive operations and who respond to any water related emergency such as drowning or evidence recovery.

Mounted Patrol Unit
The Mounted Patrol is a team of officers who, in addition to their regular duties, are selected to train and be available to work various assignments on horseback as needed.

Honor Guard
The Honor Guard is comprised of officers with varying duties and responsibilities within the agency who, in addition to their regular duties, are selected to train and be available for various Honor Guard/Color Guard details, as needed.

Training Unit
The Training Unit is responsible for ensuring that all departmental personnel are properly trained.

Victim Assistant Unit
The goal of the Victims Assistance Unit is to ensure that people victimized by crime are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect and that all opportunities for assistance are offered to them. The Advocates have received special training designed to help victims (and others) involved in crisis situations, handle the trauma with significantly less long-term effect. We believe that the earlier the intervention, the better the recovery will be.

Mobile Field Force Unit
The Mobile Field Force Unit (MFFU trains in crowd and riot control. The MFFU works jointly with other law enforcement agencies and their crowd control units.

Court Security Unit
The Court Security Unit is responsible for maintaining the security of all General Sessions Courts, Family Courts and the Historical Court in downtown York. This includes building security at all court locations and providing armed, sworn officers at the various courts. Providing screening of individuals and over all security in and around the Sheriff’s Office and Courthouses.

Crisis Negotiations Team
This team is utilized in crisis situations such as barricaded subjects, hostage rescue, suicidal subjects, etc. in an effort to resolve these incidents peacefully.

Traffic Enforcement Unit
The Traffic Enforcement Unit focuses solely in Traffic Enforcement across York County. Specialized Deputies work to make roadways safer by enforcement of all traffic laws, targeting drunk drivers, and deterring reckless driving.
