Minimum Standards

The following are the minimum standards to be considered for employment with the York County Sheriff's Office Enforcement Division. 
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED (college degree preferred).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (18 years of age for non-sworn).
  • Possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Have not committed or been convicted of any felony or serious misdemeanor (Some exceptions for non-sworn personnel is possible).
  • Have not been convicted of driving under the influence the past 10 years.
  • Be in good physical health.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Enforcement applicants must reside in the state of South Carolina.
  • Reside within 50 miles of the Moss Justice Center (1675 York Hwy., York, SC 29745).
  • Have an honorable military discharge, if applicable.

2. Application is reviewed
3. Approved applicants receive background packets
4. Applicant must turn in packet
5. Background packet reviewed
6. Approved applicants invited to test
7. Written testing,  physical testing and interview
8. Background investigation
9. Background reviewed
10. Conditional offer of employment
11. Psychological and part II of background investigation
12. Polygraph, drug screening, and fit for duty physical
13. Extension to hire given with starting salary
14. Candidate accepts offer of employment and set start date
