Detention Training Division

The Training Lieutenant and Training Sergeant are responsible for all staff training and provide in house and academy training for our staff. Detention Officers will spend their first 4 weeks of Pre-Service Training in a classroom setting with the Training Division and then a minimum of 2 weeks of on the job training with a Field Training Officer on their respective shift. Each Detention Officer must complete post assignment evaluations through their Field Training Officer before they are able to work a housing unit by themselves.

Additional Training Requirements

Within 1 year, each Detention Officer must attend training for Certification (Law Enforcement Class II Certification) at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) in Columbia, South Carolina for 3 weeks.

Each Detention Officer must complete a minimum of 40 hours of training every year and re-certify every 3 years with SCCJA. Re-certification is based on completion of required in-service training each year.
