YORK COUNTY, SC – Two York County Deputies won top honors at the National Rifle Association,  Tactical Police National Shooting Competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 15, 2013.

Sergeant Heath Clevenger took first place in the Tactical Division, and Sergeant Buddy Brown took third place in the same category.  Both men won over contestants from the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Border Patrol and other law enforcement agencies from across the United States.  In addition both Sergeants Clevenger and Brown took first place in the team tactical division.

“I wasn’t expecting to win," said Sgt. Clevenger. “I thought I would end up in the top ten, but after shooting through the rain and mud I never thought I'd be taking first place."

The NRA-TPC three-gun course is based on real life scenarios, broken down into six separate courses, featuring a variety of obstacles and targets.  An added natural obstacle at the competition this year was rain and flooding on and around the shooting course.

Sgt. Clevenger’s award was presented to him by actor and television host R. Lee Ermey.

In 2012 at the same competition Clevenger and Brown finished fourth in the Team Division and eighth and fourteenth individually.
