YORK COUNTY, SC – Two of York County Sheriff’s Office Deputies continue to be “top shots” at National Rifle Association Tactical Police shooting competitions. On June 21st 2013 Sergeants Heath Clevenger and Buddy Brown came in first place in the Team Tactical Division at the NRA –Tactical Police Competition in Fairfax, Virginia. There were 13 teams from law enforcement agencies in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North and South Carolina.
Out of 58 individuals, Sgt. Clevenger came in fifth place and Sgt. Brown came in 9th place in the Tactical Division.
The tactical portion of the competition had courses that simulate real life events versus just shooting at a bulls eye on a target. On course simulated an injury during a gun fight after a traffic stop. Competitors are asked to run through doorways, identify hostiles, fire around barriers, avoid no-shoots targets and hit center mass of the targets. There are penalties if competitors miss a target, shoot outside of the firing area, dropping loaded magazines and running out of time.
In April of this year, Clevenger and Brown finished in second place over all in the team tactical division at the NRA-TPC in Anderson, South Carolina.
