ROCK HILL, SC – On Saturday March 23rd 2013 after a two year process to comply with 218 applicable standards, the York County Department of Public Safety Communications was awarded the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. accreditation.
To receive CALEA accreditation York County PSC had to meet 218 standards which include; organization, direction and supervision, human resources, recruitment, selection and promotion process, training, operations and preparation for critical incidents.
CALEA accreditation provides a management model for administration and operations of the 9-1-1 center. Also CALEA requires that all 9-1-1 communicators received appropriate training, reduces the agency liability and ensures a great accountability to the community and the agencies York County PSC serve.
The process to achieve accreditation took almost two years and now York County PSC is now one of only four accredited 9-1-1 centers in South Carolina. The York County center will be revaluated every three years.
The CALEA commission mentioned it was very impressed that York County PSC, which was created in 2009, was able to achieve accreditation so quickly.
The awards celebration banquet was held in at the Embassy Suites in North Charleston, SC.
CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement's major executive associations in an effort to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioner.
