YORK, SC - If you or a loved one has ever been a victim of theft, whether from your home or car, there may be a feeling of “I’m never going to see my belongings again.”   The York County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with an online service that may help investigators recover stolen valuables back faster if a crook takes them.

Leads-On-line (www.reportit.leadsonline.com) is a FREE online service where citizens and business owners can keep a secure, online record of valuable property.  Those who register can store serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures, and scans of receipts so that items may be more easily identified in the event of theft or loss.  This record may also come in helpful when reporting any loss to insurance providers.

In 2011 and 2012 there was a reported $41 million worth of valuables stolen, yet only $2.2 million of those items stolen were recovered.

If you are a victim of a property crime please contact the York County Sheriff’s Office at 803-628-3059.  Leads-On-line does not perform investigations into stolen property.  However, a detective using the system can find property in seconds, which is faster and more effective than walking the streets going from store to store looking for stolen belongings.

Leads-On-line supports thousands of law enforcement agencies across the United States.  To register valuables citizens are encouraged to go to www.reportit.leadsonline.com and follow the steps to create an account and register valuables.
