YORK COUNTY, SC – On February 24, 2014 three York County Sheriff’s Deputies received Medals of Merit from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their heroic actions during an officer involved shooting on January 7, 2014.

During the incident Lieutenant Chris Blevins, Master Deputy Jason Powell, and Master Deputy Greg Garrison were assisting the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, serve an arrest warrant on an armed robbery suspect in Fort Mill, SC.  During the incident the suspect ambushed officers firing a hand gun striking CMPD Officer Shane Page twice.  During the gun fire, Lt. Blevins, M/Dep. Powell and M/Dep. Garrison provided cover while trying to get the wounded officer to safety. The suspect was ultimately apprehended and arrested.

“My officers did a fantastic job in this tough situation,” said Sheriff Bruce Bryant. “Their quick thinking and brave actions very well could have been the difference in the situation not becoming a more tragic story.”

Officer Page has made a full recovery from his injuries.
