The York County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is divided into five specialized areas of investigation - Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, Juvenile/Sex Crimes, Forensics, and Drug Enforcement. Crimes Against Persons Unit

The duties of the Crimes Against Persons Unit include investigating offenses involving homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, forgeries, fraud, and other related offenses.

Crimes Against Property Unit

The duties of the Crimes Against Property Unit include investigating offenses involving burglary, larceny, arson, auto theft, and other related offenses.

Juvenile/Sex Crime Unit

The duties of the Juvenile/Sex Crime Unit include investigating offenses involving child abuse/neglect, criminal sexual conduct, molestation, missing persons, and other related offenses. This unit is also responsible for updating and maintaining the sexual offender registry in York County.

Forensic Services Unit

The Forensic Services Unit is broken down into several areas- Crime Scene, Evidence, Drug Laboratory, and Polygraphy. The duties of this unit include the collection and preservation of crime scene evidence, the maintenance and security of evidence, analyzing controlled substances, and the use of the polygraph in criminal investigations and other investigations.

Drug Enforcement Unit

The York County Sheriff's Office has teamed with the 16th Circuit Solicitor's Office, the Clover Police Department, the Fort Mill Police Department, the Rock Hill Police Department, the Tega Cay Police Department, and the York Police Department to establish and operate the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit. This unit consists of twenty-one officers from seven different agencies who investigate all drug offenses within York County. The YCSO CID provides four investigators and a supervisor to this unit, along with a drug analyst.
